Just a few years ago, many believed that classic off-roaders are dead. Today, it turns out that they were completely wrong. Models like Toyota 4Runr and Jeep Wrangler are as popular as ever, while the revived Ford Bronco marks equally impressive sales numbers. With the rapidly increasing interest in this segment, Nissan is currently considering bringing back the Xterra, once a pretty popular compact SUV. The officials are still quiet, but if we consider the rumors and insiders, it looks like we could see it already in the next year, as the 2024 Nissan Xterra.
That model would come with a genuine body-on-frame design and just like the original, it would share most of its parts with the Frontier pickup, which was redesigned a few years ago. However, we would also expect to see slight revisions compared to the first two generations. In other words, the new model could become slightly bigger and aim at 4Runner as the key competitor. In any case, it will definitely come to the welcoming market.
2024 Nissan Xterra Design
Design-wise, things are quite simple here. The new generation would follow the path of its predecessors and offer a genuine body-on-frame design. Once again, many things would be the same as in the case of the Nissan Frontier, just like this was the case with the previous generation. The mid-size pickup was redesigned a few years ago and it is still a pretty fresh basis for the new SUV.

We presume that the new generation will rather be a mid-size SUV, with dimensions similar to Toyota 4Runner. As for the powertrain, we already mentioned that Nissan probably won’t consider electrification. Instead, the new SUV would rather rely on conventional technical solutions. The first pick should be the Frontiers 3.8-liter V6, which puts out around 310 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. That engine would come coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The rear-wheel drive would be standard, while a 4×4 drivetrain, along with other off-road upgrades should be on the list of options.
Some sources also speculate about something more modern and more efficient. In other words, they speculate about the turbocharged engine and that would probably be a 2.0-liter unit that already powers a range of Infiniti models. It puts out around 270 horsepower but we are pretty sure Nissan could tune it up and make it more competitive in this segment. That engine would also come coupled with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
2024 Nissan Xterra Release Date and Price
The 2024 Nissan Xterra is still waiting for an official confirmation. On the other hand, our insiders claim that the new model will be ready for the next year, to hit the U.S. market. As for the price, it’s still early for the exact numbers. But, we expect base versions to start somewhere between 35.000 and 40.000 dollars.
