2025 Ford Explorer Redesign – Release Date is Set

The facelift of the Explorer SUV was expected to debut this year, but the company prolonged the updates for another season. The 2025 Ford Explorer will definitely be a redesigned model if the carmaker wants to stay competitive in the tough segment. The SUV already offers plenty of varieties. Hybrid and PHEV units are there, performance-oriented Explorer ST, and luxury editions – King Ranch and Platinum. So, there is no too much room for novelties in the lineup. Some fans are mentioning the Explorer GT with a supercharged V8 engine, but it is not going to happen.

Instead, designers will be focused on the redesign of the front and rear fascias. The interior should also be new with more space and safety features. The hybrid unit is there to return a more efficient ride, while ST and PHEV configurations deliver massive power outputs. The Timberline off-road package will be carried over. It is not a Raptor, but it is nice to see the Explorer with a 4×4 trim level.

The SUV was caught several times being tested for the redesign. Of course, the company hid all the important stuff and according to all the spy shots we could see, the front fascia is bringing the most changes. Heavy camo covers the rear fascia as well. The SUV keeps the dimensions, but the new layout should provide more room for passengers, especially in the third row. Don’t expect a spectacular upgrade – it will still be suitable for children, rather than adults. If you need more room, the Expedition is a better choice. We couldn’t see through windows, but the dashboard should also be updated.

Engine and Specs

The body will be updated, but the engine room offers the same options. A 2.3-liter turbo-four is one of the company’s favorites nowadays. The small block is pretty potent, producing 300 hp, which is enough for an entry-level version. A V6 is also available. The twin-turbo 3.0-liter model is creating 400 horsepower and makes the 2025 Ford Explorer sprint 0-60 mph in less than 5.5 seconds on ST, King Ranch and Platinum models.

Electric model is debuting

2025 Ford Explorer Hybrid and PHEV

There are also two hybrid options for the 2025 Ford Explorer. The base one is combining a 3.3-liter petrol engine with an electric battery. The system creates 318 hp and 322 lb-ft, but more important – the gas mileage gets a boost. Explorer hybrid is rated 25 mpg. Ford might do something about it, since the main rival, Toyota Highlander returns 35 mpg. The Japanese manufacturer sacrificed power by replacing a V6 with a four-pot unit.

The ultimate upgrade is the plug-in hybrid system available with the 2025 Ford Explorer PHEV. The company revisited the system and it now produces 457 hp. You can go 25 miles by using only electric power. All-wheel drive is standard and the SUV needs 6 seconds for a 0-60 mph acceleration.

2025 Ford Explorer Price

Updated SUV will introduce a new pricing list. The base MSRP should still be under $40,000, but it is just a matter of time before we won’t be able to buy a mid-size three-row SUV for that money. Timberline is an off-road package and you pay $12k for this one. Top-of-the-range versions are around $65,000.
