2024 Chevy Montana US Launch: What to Expect?

From the moment Ford released Maverick, we completely changed the way we look at pickup trucks. It looks like small pickups are the next big thing and that’s why other major carmakers are expected to follow Ford’s path. Of course, Chevrolet would be one of them and the interesting thing about this company is that it may already have a pickup that would rival the Maverick. Things could happen pretty soon, as we are already getting reports of 2024 Chevy Montana coming to North America. So far, this pickup has been offered in Brazil and other South American markets.

The South-American version already has most of the qualities required to compete in the U.S. but a few modifications would be required. Some of the upgrades we definitely expect are those under the hood, but the North American version could also get more standard equipment and a few more technical upgrades.

In any case, the latest reports suggest it could arrive already in the next year.

2024 Chevy Montana Design

As we’ve just mentioned, the 2024 Chevy Montana could arrive in North America and if that happens, some modification would be required. However, the overall design would certainly remain the same. The Montana would bring the same layout, based on the GEM platform, which was initially designed for emerging markets. Compared to the Maverick, Chevy’s pickup would be smaller. It wouldn’t be as spacious but that smaller size would ensure better maneuverability, and maybe even a lower starting price. Speaking of the dimensions, Montana features a little bit over 110 inches wheelbase, while the total length goes up to 185 inches. Both measurements are notably smaller when compared to Ford’s pickup, as mentioned.

As for the exterior design, the 2024 Chevy Montana would follow segment standards, with a crew cab layout and styling that, more or less, follows the brand’s contemporary design language. Of course, there is always a chance to see a few tweaks, a few exterior features added exclusively for the U.S. market, but most things should remain unchanged.

Interior

The same thing is with the interior design. It is possible to see some modifications to adapt the pickup to the North American market, but the overall cabin layout won’t change. This pickup already features a pretty decent cabin, with solid build quality and a good-looking dashboard. There is even a decent portion of tech features, which may be increased in this case, to make the truck more appealing to North American buyers.

Just like the South American model, it would come exclusively in a crew cab layout. Simply put, that has become a segment standard, something that all small pickups do. Considering the smaller dimensions, the amount of passenger space might be slightly less impressive as in the case of Ford’s model, but both rows should still offer enough room to accommodate adults.

Thanks to the modest dimensions, the cargo bed is relatively small and offers a little bit over 30 cubic feet of cargo volume. However, it features a so-called Multi-Flex design, a cargo bed with a couple of quite practical technical solutions, such as a multi-board bed organizer and a waterproof tonneau cover.

One of the aspects that could bring notable upgrades to the North American market could be the amount of standard equipment. We could see a few additions in this case, things like a bigger touchscreen and more advanced connectivity features. Furthermore, there could be more convenience features and, finally, more standard safety features compared to the South American model.

2024 Chevy Montana Engines

If there’s an aspect of the current Montana that would need upgrades for the U.S. market, that would be the engine. Namely, the current model comes with a single powertrain option on offer. That’s a small 1.2-liter three-cylinder unit, which puts out around 132 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. It comes either with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission and while it’s not a bad engine by itself, U.S. drivers would definitely expect something more capable.

So, there are a couple of potential powertrain options for this part of the world. One of them could be a 1.5-liter turbo-four from Equinox, which puts out around 170 horsepower. The other possibility is a 2.0-liter turbo-four. That engine puts out around 230 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and we think it’s a perfect measure for a small pickup like this. As for the transmission, we might see a 9-speed unit instead of the aforementioned options.

2024 Chevy Montana Release Date and Price

The 2024 Chevy Montana will continue to expand through South America for sure and it will soon cover the whole continent with its offer. As for the U.S. launch, we are still waiting to hear something from the officials,  but the fact is that Chevy needs to launch a small pickup as soon as possible because the segment will soon become hot. As for the price, the South American model usually goes around 25k when translated to dollars, so we may expect something similar in North America.

Another highly-anticipated compact pickup is the Subaru Baja, which could come back after almost two decades.
