2024 Ford Excursion: Different Forms of Comeback

We all remember the “world’s largest SUV”. Based on Ford’s Super Duty pickups, it was pretty much a monster in the form of a family hauler. Of course, it was discontinued almost 18 years, mainly because of fuel efficiency and emissions but even today, it has a great following among a specific group of enthusiasts. That’s why it doesn’t surprise to see so many reports suggesting its comeback. The latest ones speculate about the 2024 Ford Excursion, so we dedicate the following paragraphs to the future of this SUV and its possibilities.

What’s interesting is that the Blue Oval Company has already revived the well-known nameplate but in a little bit different form. The next year’s Ford Expedition comes in the Excursion package, as a kind of tribute to the famous SUV. However, there are also reports that suggest the comeback of the model and, according to them, it would come all-electric, based on the F-150 Lightning

Brief History

The Ford Excursion was a large sport utility vehicle (SUV) that was produced by Ford Motor Company from the model years 2000 to 2005. It was a full-size SUV designed to accommodate up to nine passengers and was known for its impressive towing capacity and spacious interior.

Key features of the Ford Excursion included its robust body-on-frame construction, which allowed it to handle heavy loads and excel in towing capabilities. It was available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations to suit various driving conditions.

Under the hood, the Excursion offered a range of powerful engine options, including gasoline V8 engines and a turbocharged diesel V8, which was particularly popular among buyers seeking substantial torque for towing trailers or boats.

Due to its large size and powerful engines, the Ford Excursion was not the most fuel-efficient vehicle, and it faced criticism for its environmental impact and consumption. Consequently, as consumers’ preferences shifted towards more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles, Ford decided to discontinue the Excursion after the 2005 model year.

Despite its short production run, the Ford Excursion has gained a loyal following among enthusiasts who appreciate its capabilities and spaciousness. It remains a popular choice in the used SUV market for those seeking a robust vehicle with excellent towing capacity and ample passenger and cargo space.

2024 Ford Excursion Package

As mentioned, the Excursion is coming back and for now, that will be in the form of an optional package. Namely, the next year’s Expedition will come with a new optional package, which will bring a couple of interesting upgrades. These upgrades refer both to mechanics and interior features.

2024 Ford Excursion: All-Electric Future

Excursion enthusiasts already found a perfect scenario for the new version of this massive SUV. According to them, the logical move would be to offer an all-electric SUV, samely rugged and with similar dimensions. Moreover, we can already find a number of digital renderings and all of them do the same thing – they connect the 2024 Ford Excursion with the F-150 Lightning. This makes perfect sense, as the all-electric pickup would serve as a perfect basis for the new iteration.

According to these reports, the 2024 Ford Excursion would use the same powertrain and battery. To remind you, the all-electric F-150 comes in two variants, either with 452 or 580 horsepower. It also comes in two variants regarding the battery capacity, with 98-kWH and 130-kWh units, offering 230 and 320 miles of range, respectively. The F-150 Lightning can tow up to 10.000 pounds.

If the Blue Oval Company decides to bring back the old nameplate, we are pretty sure it would use the same recipe on the inside. Three massive rows of seats and the ability to accommodate up to eight adults, with one of the biggest cargo areas around – that’s what comes with Excursion.

2024 Ford Excursion Release Date

At this point, the all-electric Excursion is just a rumor. On the other hand, the Excursion package is already available in Ford’s configurator for the next year and should cost around 4.000 dollars.
