2024 Toyota FJ Cruiser: Electric Off-Road Future

It’s been a while since Toyota presented the Compact Cruiser concept and it looks like something is finally about to happen. With the latest EV breakthrough announcement, it looks like the Japanese manufacturer is finally starting to expand its EV lineup more seriously and one of the first models that comes to mind is definitely the highly anticipated 2024 Toyota FJ Cruiser. It would be inspired by the Compact Cruiser concept, especially in terms of aesthetics and overall design.

The officials, on the other hand, are still quiet about all this. We are still waiting to hear something from them but it looks like the new model could arrive earlier than expected, maybe already in the next year. With the capable motors and battery, boxy styling and solid off-road performance, it definitely has big chances to become popular.

Meanwhile, let’s check some of the most important aspects of the 2024 Toyota FJ Cruiser:

So, the first thing to talk about is the overall layout. In this aspect, we expect a lot of things in common with the recent Compact Cruiser, which has amazed all of us with its boxy appearance. With just one look, it’s easy to notice that this is going to be a capable off-roader, with high ground clearance, short overhangs, solid approach and departure angles etc.

Styling-wise, the concept came with a lot of inspiration taken from old Land Cruiser models. Moreover, we find a lot of similarities with the FJ Cruiser, even though that model featured round headlights, while the concept came with square ones. Also, that concept came with back doors that are rather normally sized, unlike the ones in the FJ Cruiser.

The overall shape would be quite boxy but in terms of size, this would actually be a quite compact vehicle. We presume it would be shorter and narrower than the bZ4X, but it would be taller and with notably higher ground clearance.

2024 Toyota FJ Cruiser Powertrain and Battery

As the 2024 Toyota FJ Cruiser is expected to come fully electric, one of the things that come to mind is the recent announcements of Toyota’s officials about the massive EV breakthrough. We presume, that the new tech would be implemented in this SUV because the current technology Toyota uses isn’t particularly competitive. If you look at models like the bZ4X, you can see the lack of power, shorer-than-average range and slow charging speed. According to Toyota, this will all go away with the new technology.

Namely, the Japanese manufacturer claims it possesses the new technology that ensures between 20% and 50% longer range than the competition, depending on the configuration. This means that the most capable models would be able to make up to 900 miles. Besides the impressive autonomy, Toyota also promises rapid charging speed.

Considering the off-road nature of this SUV, we are pretty sure that even the most basic versions are about to feature a dual-motor setup, with one unit on each axle.

Interior

As for the interior design, Toyota never gave us an insight into the Compact Cruiser’s interior, so we can’t talk about specifics. Still, if we consider the model’s pretty unique exterior design, it would be logical to see a similarly unique approach on the inside. We would expect to see a lot of quirks and even though this would be an EV, we wouldn’t expect to see a typically-simplistic dashboard design as in most EVs. No, we would expect to see something funkier, something that takes a lot of inspiration from the previous FJ Cruiser.

Despite the compact dimensions, we expect a fairly decent amount of space, due to the EV layout. There should be two rows of seats, both decently sized and able to accommodate adults. The boxy shape should also ensure a practical and decently sized cargo area.
